Recent Hearings

August/September 2016: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Scania - an investigation by the ICAC into a former Western Sydney Regional Illegal Dumping Squad (RIDS) enforcement officer​.

May/June 2016: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Greer - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations concerning the former chief executive officer and Board of the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council.

May 2016: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Nestor - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations concerning the former Casino Boolangle Local Aboriginal Land Council chief executive officer and administrative assistant.

February/March/June 2016: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Ricco - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations that the former City of Botany Bay Council chief financial officer, and other Council employees, dishonestly exercised official functions to obtain financial benefits for themselves and others by causing fraudulent payments of more than $4.2 million to be made by the Council.


November 2015: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Elgar - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations concerning contractor recruitment by a public official employed as the Head of Projects, ICT, at the University of Sydney.

June/July 2015: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Yancey - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations concerning the abuse of procurement processes by Department of Justice Asset Management Branch Deputy Director Capital Works in the awarding of contracts to refurbish NSW courthouses in 2013.

June 2015: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Vika - an investigation by the ICAC concerning alleged corrupt payments related to the supply of catering and other products to the NSW Rural Fire Service between 2009 and 2015.

March/April/May 2015: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Tunic - an investigation by the ICAC into an allegation that a former Mine Subsidence Board Picton office district manager received, or may have received, corrupt payments or other benefits as an inducement or reward for showing favourable treatment to building contractors.

February 2015: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Misto - an investigation by the ICAC into an allegation that a person corruptly obtained benefits by issuing false invoices to the University of Newcastle, the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, when he held information technology (IT) management positions at each of the universities between 2005 and 2013.

January/February 2015: The LRO represented witnesses at an Inquiry by the Legislative Council Select Committee on the conduct and progress of the Ombudsman's Inquiry 'Operation Prospect'.

January 2015: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Jarah - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations that a former engineer with Ausgrid solicited and received benefits from Ausgrid contractors and subcontractors in exchange for assistance in relation to the awarding of contracts and the approval of variations to contracts.


October 2014: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Protea - an investigation by the PIC into whether there was any police misconduct involved in the participation of any NSW Police Force officer in the Catholic Church Professional Standards Resource Group between 1998 and 2005.

August/September 2014: The LRO continued to represent witnesses in Operation Spicer - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations that certain members of parliament and others corruptly solicited, received and concealed payments from various sources in return for certain members of parliament and others favouring the interests of those responsible for the payments.

July 2014: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Verdi - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations that a former chancellor of the University of New England (UNE) provided confidential and/or sensitive information that he acquired in the course of his official functions as chancellor to a business associate, or otherwise made use of the information for the benefit of himself and an associate.

April/May 2014: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Spicer - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations that certain members of parliament and others corruptly solicited, received and concealed payments from various sources in return for certain members of parliament and others favouring the interests of those responsible for the payments. 

March/April 2014: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Credo - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations of corrupt conduct involving public officials and persons with an interest in Australian Water Holdings Pty Ltd.

February 2014: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Spector - an investigation by the ICAC into an allegation that a former RailCorp general manager, maintenance contracts, and his sister, an employee at the Department of Family & Community Services, used their positions as public officials to corruptly solicit funds from other people including public officials and government contractors.


December 2013: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Dewar - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations that  the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) Commissioner, Murray Kear, took detrimental action against Deputy Commissioner Tara McCarthy, including dismissal from her position in reprisal for Ms McCarthy making allegations to Mr Kear of corrupt conduct.

November/December 2013: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Montecristo - an investigation by the PIC into whether Detective Senior Constable Anthony Paul Williams, or Senior Constable Marc James Smith, or any other member of the NSW Police Force or person associated with either of them, is or has been involved in serious police misconduct or criminal activity.

October/November 2013: The LRO represented witnesses in Operations Cyrus and Cabot - investigations by the ICAC into allegations that the former member of Parliament the Hon Edward Obeid misused his position as an MP to attempt to influence other public officials in the exercise of their official functions.

October 2013: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Nickel - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations concerning a heavy vehicle competency-based assessor acting on behalf of Roads and Maritime Services.

July/September 2013: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Cavill - an investigation by the ICAC into allegations concerning the City of Ryde Mayor.

May/June/July/August/September 2013: The LRO represented witnesses at the Special Commission of Inquiry into matters relating to the police investigation of certain child sexual abuse allegations in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. 

March/April/May 2013: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Acacia - an investigation by the ICAC into the circumstances surrounding the issue of an invitation to Doyles Creek Pty Ltd to apply for, and allocation of, an exploration licence.

February/March 2013: The LRO represented witnesses in Operation Barmouth - an investigation by the PIC into whether any officer of the NSW Police Force was involved in serious police misconduct or criminal activity in the arrest and detention of Corey Matthew Barker on 14 January 2011 at Ballina and in the subsequent prosecution of Mr Barker for offences alleged to have been committed by him on that date.

February 2013: The LRO assisted the NSW Coroner's Office in the inquest into the death of Adam Le Marseny.

January/February/March 2013: The LRO continued to represent witnesses in Operation Jasper - an investigation by the ICAC into the circumstances surrounding a decision made in 2008 by the Minister for Primary Industry and Minister for Mineral Resources, the Hon Ian Macdonald MLC, to open a mining area in the Bylong Valley for coal exploration, including whether the decision was influenced by the Hon Edward Obeid MLC.
